New Supplement Category: Anti-Catabolic Amino Powders

It may not necessarily be the case that these powders are new, but the proliferation of powdered amino acid formulas with potent anti-catabolic effects has created a whole new category of pre-configured amino acid combinations specifically designed to elicit maximum nitrogen retention, during and after training. Now the question is what's the difference between this and protein powder if the same ingredients are in both? This point here illustrates a paradox - when certain amino acids are subtracted from protein or more effectively and efficiently when certain amino acids are combined in the absence of others, predictable and targeted effects can and do occur in support of the anabolic process. For example, protein has sufficient concentrations of glutamine as glutamate, but glutamine taken separately or combined with taurine, leucine, isoleucine, and valine (the last 3 being BCAAs or Branched Chain Amino Acids) exhibits both maximum cell volumization and anti-catabolic protection, during training.

Tyrosine taken alone, whether its L-Tyrosine or N-Acetylated Tyrosine has stimulatory effects that are potent enough to warrant its substitution for caffeine or at least accompany it in an effective fat burner. Hydroxy-L-Tryptophan has a sedative effect, especially when combined with similar agents that depress the central nervous system. Although glutamine can assist insulin sensitivity in a tertiary role, taurine has distinct repartitioning effects as an insulin mimicking amino acid. So what's happening is that these amino acids are being targeted in product formulations for very specific purposes. And when the concentration of anti-catabolic amino acids is high, the opportunity to cut back on excess and better position protein powder consumption arises. Instead of taking protein 1-2 hours before training, which is not recommended, supplement users might want to experiment with taking one of these amino acid formulas prior to training, while consuming protein powder afterwards.
