Advancements in Protein Technology

Technological advances in protein supplementation can only get better, especially now that pro-hormones have been banned. This is seemingly off-topic and unrelated, but is totally connected in the sense that restrictions on other products can spur advancements in remaining product areas to satisfy existing market demand. First you only had egg and soy proteins as the core protein supplements long before whey. Now you have protein serum, which actually has been out for quite some time. In taking a quick look at the new protein supplements entering the market, the next advance is already here: the sharply increased modulation of certain or specific amino acids in protein powders over others. In other words, certain anti-catabolic amino acids such as L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine, L-Methionine are being both drastically augmented and in some cases esterified out of proportion to the existing or base amino acid configuration in regular whey protein powders.

This gives one a clue about where true anabolic and anti-catabolic power in protein lie: It's in the proportions of certain amino acids relative to others, and not necessarily the amount of protein consumed. This also creates another inference. Eventually, more anabolism will be attained on actually less protein powder if the key factor is proportion optimization and augmentation of specific amino acids relative to others in the mix. Protein always had one of its dimensions of value based on the quantity or how much was consumed per sitting and over the course of the day, week, or for the length of a specific nutritional program. Now the value between the dimensions of protein quantity and quality is further shifted towards quality, as protein supplements with enhanced amino acid configurations can now be used to promote more pronounced anabolic/anti-catabolic effects, but in more compressed time and caloric frames, as the concentration of proportioned amino acid potency increases in new products.
